Mercer Track Replacement posted 9:10 AM 7/13/2010

If you are unaware, the City of New Westminster is replacing the track at Mercer Stadium. This will affect all user groups. Please read the following message from the City of New Westminster regarding the Merer Track Replacement Project:

The New Westminster Parks, Culture and Recreation will be starting work very shortly on the replacement of the Mercer Stadium Track.
What does this mean for Mercer Turf field users? During the replacement of the Mercer track there will be a construction fence that will be installed around both the inside and outside of the track. An entrance area will be provided to access the field area. This access point may shift as construction moves along different sections of the track. It will be necessary on one or two occasions to close off the access to the field entirely to facilitate the installation of the new track surface. We will endeavor to limit the time that the field is closed and to give groups as much notice as possible. Certain parts of the construction process is dependent on weather as the new surface does need to be laid down in warm, dry weather.
Construction is scheduled to begin July 19th and we hope to be completed by mid September. We will attempt to keep all groups up to date on progress and the construction schedule as more information becomes available.
If you or anyone form you group has any questions please give our Parks, Culture and Recreation office a call at 604-527-4567. We apologize for any inconvenience this project will have on the users of the Mercer Turf.
