NWSC U13 Boys Wolfpack FC Division Champs in SBMC Tournament

Congratulations to the NWSC U13 Boys "Wolfpack FC" on winning their division at the SBMC tournament March 9th and 10th in Burnaby.

Despite playing the entire weekend with injuries and illness, the boys went undefeated over the four games and gutted out a gritty victory over a very strong opponent from North Vancouver to cinch the division win.

Coaches Craig Sobering and Lukas Hardjowasito were quick to note how the team has grown together over the season and commend the players on their hard work and great attitude.

U9/U10 Girls Prospects Top Group in ICSF Tournament

Playing with a mostly U9 roster, but with some key U10 players in the mix, the Girls Prospects went 3 and 1 at the ICSF Tournament over the March 9th and 10th weekend.  The prospects played a solid team game, showing skill, determination and awareness throughout the weekend.

Kudos to coaches Brianna Bates and Sarah McCarthy, who have been working with this group every Friday throughout the season since October.  What makes this even better is the fact that both Brianna and Sarah grew up playing in New Westminster and have been coaching with the club for several years at our Spring program and with their own youth teams!

NWSC U17 Boys "Thunder" won their third League cup championship in four years, downing Coquitlam Metro Ford Celtics 2-1 under sunny skies at Minoru Park in Richmond.

Goals by Gurvir Sunner and Nickolas Low provided the offence and stellar team defending with excellent goalkeeping by Michael Walters were key to the victory.

This was a total team effort by the boys who went without a practice or a game for a month due to the fields being closed because of the snow.

Another successful season for this talented and well mannered group of young men.  Well done!! Congratulations Coach Paul Keller and Team.

2017-18 U16 Thunder Win Second Title in 3 Seasons

New Westminster's U16 Thunder (Silver 1) won the District Cup for second time in three years. A closely contested match against West Vancouver ended in a 1-0 victory for our boys. Griffyn Keller scored on a decisive penalty kick 10 minutes before the final whistle to secure the championship! Congratulations to Coach Paul and the boys!

U14 Vipers Win Burnaby Cup

After a hard-fought 70 minutes on December 11, the RCYSC U14 Boys Bronze Vipers emerged victorious in the Burnaby Cup finals 2-0 against Cliff Avenue United Galaxy to win the Burnaby Cup.
It was the last game in 2017 and the boys gave it their all, leaving nothing on the field. The forwards and strikers created numerous scoring chances, the mid-fielders kept busy blocking up the center field, helping to keep the ball in the Galaxy’s end, the defenders prevented numerous scoring chances and the goalkeeper put up a wall for the few shots that the defenders allowed—the Vipers played the best they have all season long!
The pride that the boys showed after executing an extremely well-played game is evident by the huge smiles on their faces. Great job Vipers!

U17 Boys Silver "Westminster Royals" Commonwealth Cup and League Co-Champions

Congratulations to the U17 Boys Silver RCYSC Westminster Royals who won 2-0 on Sunday, Feb 26 at Burnaby Lake to capture the Commonwealth Cup!

The team played a very good first half and dominated possession, building a 2-0 lead.  In the second half North Van came on a bit, but the Royals defended well, kept their shape and limited their opposition’s chances.

The win capped off a very successful 2016/17 season for the boys.  They finished league co-champions, losing only once, and scoring 43 goals while giving up only 11.

The team also advanced to the provincial qualifying district final where they lost to a Gold 1 team in a close game.

The team played some very attractive soccer this year and it is encouraging to see good play rewarded with success.

2012-13 Provincial Champions! U15 Westminster United

Westminster United, Royal City's U15 boys Gold team, met arch rival Killarney again in the final on Sunday July 7th, 2013, with both teams winning their groups to advance to the final in 24 degrees heat in Prince George.  After losing two midfielders, Adam Fajto and Marco Sherwood in the first 2 minutes of the game Royal City Youth Soccer’s (“RCYS”) Westminster United almost scored at the 5 minute mark on an early chance by Calvin Singh inside the 6 yard box that went just wide of the Killarney goal.  On the first corner kick of the game, which are always dangerous for the New West side, Quentin Fox perfectly timed his run to get on the end of a Markus Zacharuk corner kick.  New West led 1-0 at halftime.  Killarney answered 5 minutes after the half with a 20 yard strike into the top corner that Matthew Buchanan managed to get his fingertips on but not enough to push it wide.

High energy attacking midfielder Dieved Penalver ran miles for United – winning challenge after challenge for every ball.  With 20 minutes left in the game Joe Finlay crossed a free kick from the right flank that Marco Sherwood, recovered from an earlier injury, buried from 12 yards out with another perfectly timed header.  The New West defence held strong but Killarney converted a penalty shot after a throw in into the box resulted in a somewhat questionable call.

New West had bent but did not break with Ryan Hayes, Ethan Haid, Shea Joshi, Taylor Jensen, Naoll Degife and those already mentioned closing the door on the Killarney side.  Shortly thereafter Sterling Tamboline put a header off a corner kick just over the crossbar.  With overtime looming and both benches weakened by fatigue and injury came New West’s memorable finish.  With 4 minutes left in regulation Daniel Johnson made a run down the left flank and crossed the ball to Sherwood who one-timed his shot from 12 yards out into the far corner of the Killarney goal resulting in a 3-2 lead.  New West held on until the final whistle and the team and its loyal fans swarmed the field in jubilation, complete with the customary soaking of Head Coach Ed Zacharuk, Assistant Coach Pat Polych, and Manager Brian Jensen.

Round robin scores:

Westminster United vs Kootenay South Big Horns – 4-1 Kootenay scored on a penalty kick

Westminster United vs GFC Victoria Gorge FC – 4-0

Westminster United vs Quesnel Strikers – 11-0
